The Ladies Section is actively campaigning to introduce golf as a social sport to all ladies as a means of improving fitness and well-being. We welcome members of all ages and abilities.

Our ladies day is Tuesday but there are also opportunities to play every day (including Saturday) and Sunday is also very popular. Apart from our Tuesday competitions we have several knock-out and team events running. In the winter we have monthly fun competitions which include 9 holes of golf followed by lunch.

Our course is registered with the Golf Union of Wales to allow 9 hole competitions to count for handicaps.

Seniors Section
Reach 55 years old and join something special

To play in the Seniors Section is something special. To qualify you should be over 55. We cater for ALL handicaps and different levels of ability and new members will receive a warm welcome. As well as the competitions and trophies to play for, there is the added bonus of playing away at some of the best courses in South Wales, with approx. 10 matches played against other clubs during the Summer season and all you pay for is your meal.

All our matches are played with great spirit and friendly rivalry but we always play to win as we are representing DPGC. It is a great way of socialising with like minded members of other clubs. The matches are followed by a two course meal which we share with our opponents and there is always lots of friendly banter. Our dress code is informal, smart casual and collar and tie is not required.

Many golfers who have joined the Seniors have commented that it is the most enjoyable golf that they have ever played.

During our Winter season we play a regular Stapleford competition for a weekly sweep every Wednesday morning with tee times reserved between 8 and 9am with a drink in the bar afterwards putting the world to rights and complaining about the winner’s false handicap!

Jackdaws Section & Hallets Golf Society
How to get involved

scroll down for more

This Jackdaws golf society primarily caters for members with a handicap of 18 and above, although we extend a very warm welcome to all members aged 18 and above who wish to play with us. This section is noted for its friendliness and is seen as the ideal way to introduce yourself to the club, make friends and really enjoy your golf at Dinas Powys!

During the spring/summer months we play on a Thursday evening, the tee being reserved from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm. This is usually a Stableford competition where 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes, together with a nearest the pin prize, are awarded. Entry fee for these competitions is £4:00 which is payable on the evening. The society also runs a variety of other competitions throughout the season, which include Jackdaw of the year, as well as a knockout and team competition. Trophies are awarded at the end of season dinner. During the course of the season, we also organise “away days” and other social events, many of which attract a subsidy from the society for qualifying members.

In addition, we also run the Hallett’s Cup section of the club which is specifically for players with a handicap index of 17 and above; we play in a competition against other golf clubs in the area on a home or away basis. Team games run between April and July and provide an ideal opportunity to experience different courses and provide an excellent introduction to competition golf.

If you are interested in joining or just would like more information, please see Stephen Lloyd (2022 Hallett’s captain), Tony Martin (registration guru) or Simon Bowden (treasurer) or just ask Clive in the pro’s shop to point you in the right direction. You are sure to receive a warm, friendly welcome! To belong to the Jackdaws and enjoy all the related competitions and events there is an annual membership fee of £10.00.

If you’re interested and not quite sure what to do next, remember a wise man once said “In golf, as in life, it’s the follow through that really makes the difference!”

Thank you and we hope you enjoy your golf with us!

WAYFARERS TEAM GOLF

The Wayfarers always welcomes new Members who would like to represent Dinas Powis G.C. in the Wayfarers Society. For those Members who are not familiar with Wayfarers golf, it is

* a Team Event (10 players required)
* where the 5 pairs compete from each club in a Greensome Format (both partners tee off)
* off scratch and
* off the White Tees.
* There is a £10 match fee, payable both home and away which includes a 2 course meal afterwards.

It is an excellent way to improve your golf, an enjoyable way of meeting other members and an inexpensive way of playing other courses.

Following an excellent year in 2021, the team were promoted in to the Premiership Division. We now look forward to playing the best teams in the society in 2022. The Wayfarers organisers have a minimum Handicap limit of 9.5 but with the new World Handicap System (WHS) players below 9.5 may play if the course rating allows. For example at home we can field 9.1 Handicaps and away we can allow down to 8.5.

So if your Handicap is from 8.5 upwards (no limit) and you are interested in joining the Wayfarers Team, please contact Mike Norris (07861294529) or any member of the Wayfarers Team. Fixtures for 2022 and availability sheets for individual matches will be put up on the Wayfarers notice board. (Located in the corridor to the men’s changing rooms)
